History

The Law Office of Jonathan E. Cohen focuses on bankruptcy, foreclosure, personal injury, zoning, land-use, real estate, estate administration, and other areas. For two decades attorney Cohen has successfully represented numerous private and municipal clients in a variety of federal, state, and municipal judicial and administrative proceedings. He has been a practicing attorney in New York since 1996.

Attorney Cohen received his B.A. in Political Science, Summa cum Laude, from the State University of New York at Albany in 1984 and his Juris Doctor from Boston College Law School in 1995.  He has been licensed to practice law in New York State since 1996 and is a member of the Columbia County Bar Association, the Capital Region (NY) Bankruptcy Bar Association, and is a past member of the New York State Bar Association and the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys.

Prior to practicing law, Mr. Cohen authored A Constitutional Safety Valve: The Variance in Zoning and Land-use Based Environmental Controls (Boston College Environmental Affairs Law Review), was a consultant to the Columbia Land Conservancy in Chatham, N.Y. in the early 1990s, served as editor of the Zoning Law Bulletin, a nationally published legal newsletter, and authored numerous nationally published legal newsletters dealing with zoning and municipal law. He also contributed to the New York Planning Federation's reference work All You Ever Wanted to Know About Zoning and authored the article Zoning Tool Lets Land Be Developed for Public Benefit, published in the Capital District Business Review.
